During my time in Houston, I met some incredible creatives that ranged from bloggers, fashion designers, photographers, make-up artists, hair stylists etc. One of the most talented creatives I had the pleasure of meeting was Fashion Illustrator Rongrong DeVoe.
Rongrong and I informally met at a Houston Pop Shop America event last summer and I remember loving her artistic vision, how amazing her fashion illustrations were and how incredibly sweet she was. As I got more into the blogger scene attending beauty and fashion events, I ran into Rongrong more often and got to know her pretty well. I think where we really hit it off was when I asked her to illustrate a portrait of my Houston blogger babes and I, for a Christmas gift to the girls. Rongrong loved the idea as she told me she admired our energy and friendship and would get something to me right away. The fashion illustration turned out better than I could’ve ever imagined and all the ladies were floored by my super awesome amazing gift.
Rongrong has been featured in Instyle magazine as the top illustrator you should follow on Instagram and has done live sketches for Rachel Zoe, Neiman Marcus and Chanel just to name a few. Not only do I want everyone to buy Rongrong’s super chic fashion illustrations and products, I also want everyone to get to know the girl behind the fashion sketches. I’m very honored and lucky to have Rongrong on the blog today and want to thank her for taking the time to answer some questions.
1. When did you start drawing?
I started when I was 14. I learned how to sketch, watercolor painting, etc. in middle school.
2. What was your first fashion illustration?
It was a girl in a pretty dress. I found her in a fashion magazine when I was a teenager.
3. Do you have a favorite illustration?
I don’t have one from all the work I’ve done. It is hard to choose one, but my Audrey Hepburn illustration is everybody’s favorite.
4. What inspires you to draw?
I love nature, travel and of course fashion. I love to use my pen to express feelings and illustrate my stories that I want to share.
5. Where is your favorite place to draw?
I actually love drawing in my studio and also love to do live sketch events to meet and draw people!
6. What has been the most surprising thing about creating your own business?
The most surprising thing is you never know what your next project will be! I believe the sky is unlimited! Be brave, dream big:-)
7. Who’s your favorite fashion icon?
I love SJP (Sarah Jessica Parker) and J LO (Jennifer Lopez). It’s not because they have perfect shoe collections or killer bodies, it’s their inner strength and confidence that draw me in!
8. What does style mean to you?
Style is everything that’s about you, it’s something within you! You use style to communicate with the world.
9. What’s your favorite thing in your closet right now?
Sweats…(kidding).. I bought a navy green dress with a side slip from ASOS. I love it, I feel confident and powerful when I wear it.
10. Do you have any advice for fashion illustrators out there?
I do! Make a clear goal and work hard for it. Learn whatever you need to to move closer to your goal. Don’t give it up!
I have 3 mini sketches, 1 portrait and 1 amazeballs cell phone case by Rongrong. I think that’s the criteria of a Rongrong Stan right? lolz.
Thank you so much Rongrong for stopping by the blog and sharing your inspiration with us and HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY *HUGS*
