Modern Vintage Silhouette

For this Fashion Friday, I’m happy to feature the lovely guest blogger Melissa Massey from the style blog VintageTeaRoses.com. Melissa talks to us about the modern vintage silhouette and shows us her adorbz style!

Modern Vintage Silhouette

For most of us vintage lovers, wearing one of the dresses featured on the 1952 cover of Vogue is something we can only dream of. Similarly, most of us would be lucky to afford the vintage inspired Art Deco Tiffany & Co. jewelry made for this year’s release of The Great Gatsby, let alone any genuine pieces sold in the Swinging Twenties.

For me, and I can assume for most of you vintage enthusiasts out there, it is all about seeking pieces with a post-war austerity mentality. To find the best on a budget, you’ll see me hunting through the racks of charity shops, riffling through the fakes to find classic gems at vintage fair stalls  and grabbing the latest re-purposed dresses at vintage shops that will get a modern vintage silhouette once I put my final touch on them.

This 1950’s inspired swing dress is my go-to dress when I am not sure of the formality of an occasion I’ve been invited to. This dress is my favorite for making me feel like I’m making an effort (while not actually having to make that much of an effort!). This floral silhouette easily transitions from daytime office wear to evening socials or dancing with friends.

This silhouette is also known as a 1950s tea dress (named from times when ladies used to dress up and meet each other for afternoon tea). Needless to say, this 1950s style dress could also be worn for an impromptu Saturday morning cup of tea. Pair this dress with an envelope shoulder bag , white kitten heels and you get your modernized vintage look.
