One of the fashion industry’s most glamorous events of the year is only hours away at the 2013 Met Gala in New York City. A night where celebrities, fashion designers and industry insiders come to celebrate the opening of the Metropolitan Museum‘s fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute. Although the idea of the gathering is to marvel at the beautiful displays of art exhibited for everyone to see, one of the most important moments, if not THE moment is the red carpet arrivals of all the invited guests. The big red staircase welcomes fashion designers with their celebrity companions wearing their latest designs, aiming to be the most memorable look of the evening. In anticipation of tonight’s glitz and glamour, I have put together my top ten looks of Met Gala’s past.
#10.
The late great Alexander McQueen accompanied by fashion icon Sarah Jessica Parker at the 2006 Met Gala. What the Met Gala is all about bringing art and fashion together to create memorable pieces and fashion history.
#9.
The master of ceremonies, Anna Wintour in a white Prada dress and fur cape at the 2012 Met Gala. No Met Gala list is complete without mentioning the woman who hosts this glamorous event and has final say of the elite guest list.
#8.
2012 Met Gala. Model Karolina Kurkova wearing a custom made Rachel Zoe gold sequence gown with matching turban. This look screams opulence, glamour and very “night in Monte Carlo” and therefore having to be on my top ten list.
#7.
2010 Met Gala. The always stunning Jennifer Lopez wearing a beautiful gown made to perfection by Zuhair Murad. The gorgeous neckline and beaded bodice is something that deserves to be marveled and appreciated.
#6.
2010 Met Gala. The ever so lovely Blake Lively in a super short and super hot Marchesa dress. I love this look on her and think it brings a hint of youthful sexiness to such a formal occasion.
#5.
2009 Met Gala. Once again Blake Lively takes another slot on my list. Like a dear friend of mine said about her “she’s just a lot of fun to look at” which is so true. She has a phenomenal body and can rock a paper bag if need be. Rocking this Versace sky high side slit can only deserve two YES and YES snaps! You got legs like that?! Work it!
#4.
2012 Met Gala. Our cover girl infront of the sea of photographers Camilla Belle in a Ralph Lauren gown. A beautiful young girl bringing old Hollywood glamour to the gala.
#3.
2012 Met Gala. Nina Dobrev in Donna Karen Atelier. The only reason you should have a train as long as this one is to grace a red carpet and Nina does it oh so very well!
#2.
2011 Met Gala. Wearing a Zac Posen gown while at the designer’s side, Christina Ricci shows us that those red stairs don’t look so tough to climb ;). The fit is spectacular, the lines are mesmerizing and the train is the reason why gala’s even exists!
And my TOP NUMBER ONE look is:
2010 Met Gala. Doutzen Kroes in Zac Posen. My honest opinion on this ethereal gown; No, you can never wear this dress anywhere, this isn’t for your everyday event, BUT it is for an event that encompasses what the Met is celebrating. Amazing design, timeless glamour and an over the top presence that will have everyone remembering the dress, model and designer who brought this look to the gala.
Only after listing these looks did I realize I seem to like Zac Posen and sequence a lot lol. Can’t wait to see tonight’s gala and who will be attending with who, wearing what and what my favorite looks will be.
Keeping it Confident – Patty
